Education
Education Should Be Every Child's Privilege

Prerana Education Partnership

The Prerana Education Partnership (PEP) is educational project of SDSS that supports the educational journey and holistic development of children from low-income families within the Kathmandu Valley. Rooted in the Nepali word “Prerana,” meaning “to inspire,” the program partners closely with families, schools, and educators to ensure access to quality education and remove barriers that hinder learning. Recognizing that sending a child to school alone is not enough, PEP provides ongoing support through encouragement, life-skills training, educational resources, and close relationships with both parents and students.

By walking alongside each family as an advocate, liaison, and mentor, PEP empowers children to pursue education up to higher studies or vocational training, helping them build the skills and confidence needed to break the cycle of poverty and move toward a brighter, independent future.

Jhilko
(A spark of Education)

The Jhilko Project, meaning “spark” in Nepali, is a unique initiative by Sundar Dhoka Saathi Sewa (SDSS) designed to provide holistic care and educational support for children connected to SDSS services both at the central and field levels. The project aims to ignite hope and light up the future of children by helping them continue their education and personal growth as they return to their home villages after medical treatment.

Based in Kathmandu and Mugu, the project in Kathmandu supports children who come for treatment by helping them catch up on school and providing emotional care during their stay. In Mugu, Jhilko operates as a tuition center for local children, helping strengthen their academic foundation. The project also benefits some adults, including caregivers and patients, fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
