The Core Program of Crucial Help at SDSS
The Children Health and Rehabilitation Care Project (CHRCP), operated through the Patient Navigation Department at SDSS, is a unique model in Nepal designed to support children from remote and underserved areas where medical services are limited and centralized.
As a core program of SDSS, CHRCP integrates three key projects—Child Rehabilitation Project (CRP), Child Heart Project (CHP), and Cleft Lip and Palate Project (CLP)—to provide holistic care for children with physical disabilities, heart conditions, and cleft-related issues. The project not only ensures access to essential surgeries and long-term rehabilitation but also empowers families with knowledge, connects them to hospitals and community resources, advocates for their care, and facilitates access to government support. Through patient navigation, CHRCP acts as a bridge between marginalized patients and critical health services across Nepal.
Children's Heart Project
For our Little Ones

Nepali children with life threatening/shortening congenital and rheumatic heart defects receive loving care in our facility. Specialist cardiac intervention saves the lives of these children offering a full and productive lifespan. We open the door for this life-transforming medical care.
While staying in our comfortable hostel, we provide food, transportation, healthcare navigation (arrangements and advocacy), and assistance making the service of cardiac specialists accessible to those children most in need.

Children's Rehabilitation Project
Correctable Birth-Genetic Defects
Individuals (especially children) with correctable birth/genetic defects come to SDSS and are guided to specialized medical services. We arrange, facilitate, and oversee their surgery, rehabilitation therapy, and post treatment education for ongoing care, wholeness, and life-skills. While at SDSS, patients and their caregiver(s) receive housing, food, medical transportation, and any other needs vital to their course of medical care and rehabilitation.
Injuries from Accidents
Accident victims (burns, falls, auto accidents, etc.) in remote areas may be left untreated or improperly treated causing ongoing physical impairments. Amputation becomes a common result. At SDSS, these people are received and assisted in restorative care, prosthetic services, rehabilitation training, and life-skills necessary to thrive with their reality. When government services are available, we advocate and assist our clients to receive the help for which they are qualified.
Cleft Lip and Palate Project
Children born with cleft lip and/or palate often face social stigma, causing emotional and social challenges for both the child and their family. Through referrals, these children are brought to SDSS, where our Patient Navigation team coordinates with hospitals for necessary cosmetic surgeries. After receiving treatment and short-term rehabilitation, the children are safely returned home with improved confidence and care.

Charity Care Project
Medical Help - Special Cases

At times, special cases fall "outside" the norms of our practice and we watch for these and respond. For unique individuals, equally unique care addresses their needs.

This program is an extension of our core program, the Patient Navigation project note above. Patients receive a complete, holistic, and flexible case-by-case treatment plan with the goal of complete recovery and restoration. This program often demands a creative approach to solve complex problems.

Local Sponsor Project
Being a Good Neighbour

Our Patient Navigation clients are typically those medically challenged needy persons from remote villages. But, on occasion there are equally worthy and medically needy people in and among us in Kathmandu. These people arrive at SDSS by virtue of a local agency (government or other) who seeks our support, hospitality, and expertise.
We stand ready to serve anyone in need, including those in communities local to our base of operations.

Physiotherapy Care
When people with physical limitations require long-term or repeated assistance with therapeutic health services and financial barriers make access impossible, the SDSS team of qualified healthcare practitioners help these people develop adjustments and abilities and compensating functions through full-scale rehabilitation programs. We help them embrace life to their fullest capacity. When our patients return to their home villages, we follow up with calls and coordinate local services if available.

Care and Counselling

The Counselling Care initiative at SDSS is designed to enhance the emotional, social, and personal well-being of patients, caregivers, and staffs. Grounded in empathy and respect, it provides a structured environment for individuals to share experiences, reflect on challenges, and receive guidance. By combining formal counselling services with informal opportunities for connection, the program fosters dignity and hope.
SDSS Founding Member and Counsellor, Mrs. Goma Adhikari is actively involved in counselling care which is more than a service; it is a commitment to accompany individuals, ensuring their voices are heard and needs recognized. Through listening, thoughtful responses, and collaboration, it builds a culture of compassion, inclusion, and empowerment within SDSS.
Medical Rehabilitation
A dedicated physiotherapist provides a full-range of physiotherapy treatments to compliment basic healthcare. We have the required equipment and space that make this service accessible to persons with disabilities.
